Water year precipitation to-date; percentile

CNAP researcher David Pierce provides us with a look at the water year-to-date percentile precipitation for western stations. The most recent plots (updated daily) can be found at:

The stations shown are those with data during the last 30 days from the GHCN (Global Historical Climatology Network). The values shown are from the start of the water year (October 1st). The percentiles indcate how this year ranks in comparison to other water years in the particular station’s history. A percentile of 50 would mean a normal year. The recent plot above shows the swath of sites along the west coast that are unusually dry (dark brown with black circle). These abnormally dry sites extend eastward into broad sections of the west.
