February 11, 2014

The California Air Resources Board has released the proposed update to the AB 32 Scoping Plan. The Scoping Plan guides development and implementation of California’s groundbreaking greenhouse gas emission reduction programs. The 2013 update incorporates the latest scientific consensus and CNAP researcher Dan Cayan is an expert reviewer on the proposed update. The full proposed update can be found at http://www.arb.ca.gov/cc/scopingplan/2013_update/draft_proposed_first_update.pdf

The figure below (from the document) shows how emissions in the state have changed over the last decade. While California’s population grew by 10.5% the total greenhouse gas emissions were reduced by 2.7%.
